Dear Parents/Guardian,

It is rightly said that the school is the temple of learning. Accordingly all those, who are involved in schooling partake of a divine mission is to impart the light of truth in the young minds, by dispelling the darkness of ignorance. Schooling to be effective, should be pleasurable experience. Children have to long to go to school rather than sit idle at home by playing fruant.

An undue burden on the young minds will certainly be counter productive. How far does society help in making schooling pleasurable? There are occasions where children are forced to sell out their childhood because of unjustified pleasure from parents, teachers, school and society. When parents insist on their child getting a first rank in class and nothing less, when they are upset, if the child does not live upto their expectations; when the teachers become tyrants or hard task masters; when the older ones in school bully the younger ones, when the school environment is polluted (in various ways); then the school becomes a ’Haunted house’ and a nightmare for children rather than a home."

More than ever the children of today are put to a lot of strain and stress from their early childhood because of parental rejection teacher’s apathy, and social indifference. These are accentuated by the fast-paced ’modernism’ that has been creeping into the Indian society, that compels each parents to be ’independent’ for social security, leaving children ’orphaned’.

In the above context the teacher’s task becomes a mission which is divinely oriented/He/She can not rest easy after lecturing a lesson. His/Her duty is not confined to the four walls of the class room; it is beyond the text books and examinations. The teacher infact, should become a role model for the students. He/She should be a friend, philospher and guide. A kind gesture from a teacher can go a long way in leading the wards exflicted on the young minds, be it in the family or elsewhere. Hence, an attitude change for the better can have a revolutionary change in the behaviour of children. Learning will certainly become pleasurable; teacher will be for more effective; school can be proud of creating students with a difference. Until that happens, we have a long way to travel. At this juncture, the immortal words of Cardinal Newman find an echo in my heart. "Lead kindly light, amid the encircling gloom. Lead thou me on."

May God Bless You !
